February 28, 2025, Bakersfield, CA: A bicyclist was tragically killed in a fatal bicycle accident on a highway in Bakersfield on Friday evening.

The accident, according to information provided by Bakersfield Now, happened around 6:51 p.m. at 2400 Edison Highway just east of Mount Vernon Avenue. Police confirmed that a bicyclist was traveling in the area when they were suddenly struck by the driver of a passenger vehicle. It is believed that the driver remained on scene following the collision.

The bicyclist, who has not yet been formally identified, was tragically pronounced dead on scene as a result of their injuries. Nobody else was hurt in the accident.

Police urged those in the area to avoid that section of the highway for some time after the collision.
