November 25, 2024, Bakersfield, CA: A suspected DUI collision took the life of a minor at an intersection in Bakersfield on Friday night.
According to information provided by KGET, the collision took place around 7:24 p.m. at the intersection of Hosking Avenue and South Union Avenue. Police confirmed that a driver was traveling south in a Chevrolet SUV when their vehicle struck a Honda sedan that was making a left turn at the intersection.
Two passengers in the Honda sedan, identified as a 12-year-old and an 11-year-old, were rushed to the hospital with major injuries. The 12-year-old was tragically pronounced dead while there. The driver of the Chevrolet sustained moderate injuries and was also hospitalized.
Police confirmed that the driver of the Chevrolet, identified as a 35-year-old man, was arrested for suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and other DUI-related charges. Police say that he will be booked in jail once cleared at the hospital.
Bakersfield Police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the collision at this time.
