August 18, 2024, Madera, CA: One person tragically lost their life in a fatal head-on collision that took place on a highway in Madera on Sunday night.
According to information provided by Bakersfield Now, the accident took place around 11:15 p.m. on Highway 145 (Yosemite Avenue). A 39-year-old man was traveling westbound in a Dodge Charger when the driver suddenly hit a Ford F-150 head-on after crossing over the center lane.
From there, the driver of a Nissan Rogue slammed into the Dodge when they didn’t see it in time. The Nissan was then struck by a driver in a Toyota Prius who was traveling eastbound and was unable to stop in time. When all vehicles came to a rest, a westbound Ram pickup truck slammed into the Dodge.
The driver of the Dodge sustained major injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center. The drivers and passengers in the Nissan and Ram were all taken to the same hospital with moderate injuries.
The driver of the Ford, identified as a 61-year-old man from Madera, was severely injured and airlifted to Community Regional. He was tragically pronounced deceased while there due to his injuries.
Police believe that the driver of the Dodge was driving under the influence at the time of the accident. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the collision continues.
