Pedestrians in rural parts of Fresno won’t usually find crosswalks and sidewalks to travel on. At night they probably won’t have proper lighting to increase visibility and to keep them safe. It means that drivers must be even more careful as they drive on roads out in the country. They must always monitor for pedestrians nearby and slow down when they see them.
When motorists don’t show this level of care, they can be held liable for injuries and for any deaths they cause. Careless motorists can also face criminal charges when they strike someone and then leave a victim at the scene without trying to get the victim medical assistance as soon as possible.
Hit-and-Run Arrest After a Tragic Pedestrian Accident in Fresno County
A tragic collision east of Fresno claimed a pedestrian’s life and led to a hit-and-run arrest Wednesday night. ABC30-TV reports the accident occurred along Bishop Avenue near the intersection of Shields Avenue, north of Kerman, on July 26, 2023.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene sometime after 8:30 p.m. They determined that a 32-year-old driver from Kerman traveling north came upon a man lying in the road. The male driver struck the man and the victim was declared dead at the scene.
A witness then came upon the scene and approached the driver and that’s when the driver took off. The witness followed the suspect to Floyd Avenue where he was arrested.
The driver was charged with felony hit-and-run and taken to the Fresno County Jail. California Highway Patrol investigators are still trying to determine if the pedestrian was hit by more than one car.
Support for Families After a Tragic Fresno County Pedestrian Hit-And-Run Accident
Families will never completely recover from the grief and emotional pain of losing a loved one. However, they should be left free to mourn their loss without worrying over the bills that arise after a tragic accident.
Close relatives can face paying for a funeral and burial and emergency services fees. They’ll also have to find a way to meet these bills after losing the financial support a loved one may have provided the family through income from a job.
When a hit-and-run suspect is apprehended, a wrongful death claim can be filed against the driver’s auto insurance company. The suspect will likely face a criminal trial, but the family’s civil claim would proceed separately and could be filed immediately.
