Motorcyclists traveling the interstates around the Bay Area must always be wary of drivers in vehicles who aren’t watching their mirrors and blind spots for riders. These unfocused drivers also sometimes miss a motorcycle right in front of them causing a devastating rear-end collision.
On a busy bridge, a mistake by a reckless driver can leave motorcyclists with no shoulders or extra lanes to move into to avoid an impact. Riders out enjoying the fresh air can quickly be put in a life-threatening situation by just one lapse in judgment from a driver.
Motorcyclist Hospitalized After Collision on the Bay Bridge
A man riding a motorcycle was transported to a trauma center after a bad accident on the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge Wednesday afternoon. Patch reported the accident occurred along I-80 near Treasure Island on June 28, 2023.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene in the eastbound lanes. They determined that a vehicle had struck a motorcycle. The rider, identified as a 68-year-old man, was rushed to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. The victim’s name and condition had not been released.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the frightening collision. The accident shut down the slow lane on the eastbound side, causing delays of an hour or more for motorists using the bridge to travel to Oakland. The backup extended well into San Francisco.
Support for Victims After San Francisco Motorcycle Accidents
Victims forced into scary collisions can face long recoveries from injuries. A crash might leave a motorcycle rider with broken bones, a Traumatic Brain Injury, and neck and back damage. The recovery costs from treatment in an emergency room or trauma center might quickly grow beyond ten thousand dollars. Especially when additional care or surgeries are needed in the months ahead.
Victims should never be expected to cover these costs when a reckless driver is to blame. Victims and their close loved ones can file an injury claim against the at-fault driver’s car insurance company.
This civil claim secures support for hospital bills, emergency response fees, and the lost wages suffered during recovery. The emotional trauma experienced while a rider is unable to get back on a motorcycle should also earn additional compensation for victims as they heal.
