Accident Scene Dangers on Interstate I-880 in Fremont

Accidents along busy Fremont interstates can place drivers and passengers at incredible risk. However, victims might suffer additional harm when they got out of their vehicles at the scene.

Other drivers must slow down when they come upon an accident scene, but sometimes motorists neglect their duty to keep defenseless pedestrians safe. A collision victim may not even be hurt in an initial accident, only to get out of a car to suffer life-threatening injury from a careless driver coming upon the scene.

Driver in Fremont Car Crash Is Struck and Killed After Getting Out of Vehicle

A driver was hit and killed while on the scene of a previous crash this weekend in southern Fremont. KRON4-TV reports the accident occurred along Interstate 880 near Mission Boulevard on May 14, 2023.

The California Highway Patrol arrived on the scene sometime after 2:30 Sunday morning. They determined that two vehicles had been in a prior collision and the drivers had pulled over on the right-hand shoulder of the interstate. The driver of one of the cars involved got out to swap information with the other motorist when a truck came along and struck the victim.

The driver, who was at the time a pedestrian, tragically died from injuries suffered in the collision. The truck’s driver fled the scene. At this time, CHP investigators have not released a description of the truck or the driver involved. If you know anything about this hit-and-run incident, please contact the Fremont Area Highway Patrol Office.

Support for Families After a Fremont Car Accident

Families may wonder how to seek justice after a loved one is killed in a tragic hit-and-run collision. Close relatives like a spouse and children of the victim can face enormous funeral bills and leftover emergency response fees. They could also suffer financial harm in the future because the deceased can no longer provide income support through a weekly paycheck.

After a hit-and-run suspect is arrested, family members can file a wrongful death claim to ask an at-fault driver’s car insurance company for help in paying these costs.

When a hit-and-run suspect escapes capture, families may be able to call upon their own car insurance policies for assistance. The victim may have had uninsured motorist coverage that could help out the family financially at such a difficult time. If the victim did not carry car insurance, he or she may have been covered by a family member’s policy.
