Pedestrian Accident Dangers On Prescott Road in Modesto CA

Pedestrians in busy sections of Modesto have little choice but to trust that drivers are paying attention to the lanes. Those on foot must often cross four and five lanes of traffic with zero protection from careless and reckless motorists.

Drivers are required to slow down anytime they see a pedestrian trying to cross a street, no matter where they encounter them. When drivers aren’t focused on the roads or are impaired by a drug or alcohol and they miss spotting a pedestrian, they can be held fully responsible for the consequences.

Pedestrian Killed by DUI Suspect While Crossing Modesto Road

A tragic accident involving a DUI suspect claimed the life of a woman trying to cross the street Tuesday night in northwest Modesto. CBS13-TV reported the accident occurred on Prescott Road, near the intersection of Standiford Avenue on January 17, 2023.

Modesto police responded to the scene sometime after 9:45 p.m. They determined that a 65-year-old woman was trying to cross Prescott Road when she was struck by an SUV. Investigators say the driver involved fled the scene, but they were able to apprehend him after witnesses tracked him to a location a few blocks away.

Police arrested the 60-year-old driver. He is facing murder, manslaughter, felony DUI, and felony hit-and-run charges.

Supporting Families After a Modesto Pedestrian Accident

Families who have lost a loved one in a pedestrian accident should be given time to grieve such a heartbreaking tragedy. Instead, close relatives are often facing burial costs and emergency response fees just days after a collision.

A wrongful death claim filed against an at-fault driver’s insurance company provides a way for families to seek justice and protect themselves financially in the future. A claim can ask for assistance with leftover bills. It could also provide support for the lost guidance and income the deceased can no longer provide in the years to come.

DUI and hit-and-run suspects will face a criminal trial, but a family’s civil case doesn’t have to be delayed. The family can file a wrongful death claim immediately and collect a settlement even if a criminal trial hasn’t begun yet. The two cases are separate. A skilled Modesto pedestrian accident attorney collects evidence to build a strong case against the at-fault driver’s auto insurance company. Then, when a case is ready, the lawyer can file it on behalf of the entire family.
