Interstate 5 through Kern County can catch drivers unprepared for heavy traffic, steep grades, and surprising curves. Drivers, especially those not focused on the roads, can make a small mistake that might threaten their passengers and motorists in other vehicles.
Buses and heavy trucks provide extra big obstacles that can struggle to slow down for stopped traffic or weave through the lanes erratically. These careless moves can cause high-speed accidents and major injuries to victims.
Shuttle Bus Collides with Passenger Vehicle Near Ft. Tejon
Two vehicles collided along Interstate 5 in southern Kern County Thursday afternoon causing an unknown number of injuries. KGET-TV reports the crash occurred in the Fort Tejon area near the Laval Road exit on January 26, 2023. That’s near the Tejon Outlet Mall.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the scene sometime after 3:30 p.m. They found that a shuttle bus and a passenger vehicle had collided. The shuttle bus was from Express Transit, a company based in Bakersfield. The Kern County Fire Department helped victims in the crash and also blocked off two lanes of the freeway.
It was unclear if anyone was sent to the hospital in the aftermath. Early reports from the scene indicated there were no serious injuries, but at least one victim was complaining of pain.
CHP investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Support for Victims After an Interstate 5 Accident
Freeway accident victims must always be cautious in the hours and days after a serious traffic collision. The adrenaline and shock experienced after a scary crash can mask the pain of an injury. Emergency responders and emergency room doctors can miss hairline fractures and the symptoms of a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
Victims can wake up the next morning and find themselves in incredible pain. Victims should visit their own physicians as soon as possible after an accident. They should get any new pain examined. Victims should also follow all of their doctor’s directions including seeing specialists and attending physical therapy.
The cost of injury care may be enormous, but victims who are hurt through no fault of their own shouldn’t have to worry about hospital bills. An injury claim can be filed against the car insurance provider for the at-fault driver. This claim seeks money to pay medical bills and to replace the income patients lose while they must miss valuable time at work. The physical and emotional pain that arises after a crash should earn victims additional support.
