Man Injured In Blackstone Avenue Pedestrian Accident in North Fresno

A car accident is among the most frustrating accidents that you can experience, and you can even be involved if you’re not driving a car. However, just because you’re a pedestrian doesn’t mean you don’t have legal options to get the support and benefits you need to recover–medical bills, damage to your property, etc. The reality is that, as a pedestrian, you run the risk of being in an accident thanks to negligent drivers.

If you have been injured in a Fresno pedestrian accident, Maison Law can help.

Pedestrian Struck and Injured on Blackstone Avenue in Fresno

A driver lost control of his vehicle and struck a pedestrian along Blackstone Avenue in North Fresno early Tuesday morning, leaving the man that was on the sidewalk with injuries, reported KFSN. Around 8 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, a man was driving his Corvette along Blackstone Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle and drove up on the sidewalk, where a man was sleeping near some bushes and a utility box. Fresno police are still investigating the cause of the crash, but say the driver also damaged the utility box near where the pedestrian was when they collided.

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

What Causes of Pedestrian Accidents in Fresno?

Pedestrians are not safe from car accidents in Fresno, mostly because no matter how well they pay attention to their safety, they cannot control the actions of drivers on the road. Moreover, pedestrians are at risk for more serious injuries because they have virtually no protection from heavy vehicles that are moving at speed. When they collide with a pedestrian, injuries are likely. Still, it can be helpful to understand what causes pedestrian accidents in Fresno:

  • Distracted driving or texting behind the wheel
  • Motor vehicles and bikes not yielding to pedestrians at crosswalks
  • Turning at intersections without looking both ways
  • Driving too fast to be able to safely stop in time
  • Failure to follow posted speed limits
  • Drunk driving or driving under the influence of drugs
  • Design defects in crosswalk locations, including failure to consider upstream and downstream traffic flows

Additionally, urban areas have a much higher number of pedestrian accidents than rural areas, but many horrific accidents can happen on country roads. Winding roads with limited visibility and high speeds create the perfect storm for a car accident involving a pedestrian, resulting in serious injuries.

The California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS) found that there were 50 accidents involving pedestrians that led to injuries in Fresno in 2020.
