Pedestrian Accident Liability on S Carpenter Road in Modesto CA

Pedestrians who travel after the sun goes down can’t usually count on drivers paying the extra attention needed to keep everyone safe. All Modesto drivers are required to slow down upon spotting a pedestrian and do everything possible to avoid a collision. This duty is impossible if drivers aren’t focused on the road to make sure they don’t overlook a defenseless person on foot.

A small lapse in attention can cause a devastating pedestrian accident. Once an accident has occurred, victims need medical attention as soon as possible. Unfortunately, that help is often delayed when an at-fault driver speeds away to avoid taking responsibility.

Woman Killed in a Modesto Pedestrian Hit-And-Run Incident

Modesto Police and the California Highway Patrol are on the lookout for a pedestrian hit-and-run suspect after a woman was tragically killed early Monday. ABC10-TV reports the accident took place near the intersection of South Carpenter Road and South Waverly Drive in southwest Modesto on November 7, 2022.

The California Highway Patrol received the call around 4 a.m. They arrived on the scene to find that a woman crossing Carpenter Road had been struck and left in the southbound lane. Sadly, she had to be pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the hit-and-run suspect was driving a small, dark-colored, older-model pickup truck. Officers continue to investigate, but they ask that anyone with information about what happened to call the Modesto Area California Highway Patrol.

Seeking Out Full Support for Families After a Tragic Modesto Pedestrian Accident

After a tragic pedestrian accident, family members of the victim can face extreme financial turmoil. They’ll have the bill for a funeral coming due and still be responsible for leftover medical bills and emergency response fees.

Modesto families can file a wrongful death claim against an at-fault driver to get assistance with these bills and others. They should also receive substantial support to help with the income lost now that the deceased can’t provide for close relatives.

The at-fault hit-and-run driver may face a criminal trial, but that won’t delay civil proceedings to decide how much support families should receive.

If the hit-and-run driver to blame isn’t identified, it is still possible to earn compensation for victimized families. A claim can be filed on the victim’s own car accident insurance or on a family member’s policy that covers the victim. This claim would utilize the policy’s uninsured motorist coverage.
