Pedestrian Accident Dangers On Alisal Street in Salinas CA

children-injured-in-crosswalks

Pedestrians in Salinas can find it difficult to locate safe crosswalks to travel the city. They can also face careless and reckless drivers who don’t pay attention to the lanes in front of them.

Drivers owe all pedestrians a legal “duty of care” and must keep their eyes peeled for anyone on foot at all times. Once they’ve spotted a pedestrian, motorists are required to slow down as much as needed to prevent a collision with a defenseless walker.

When drivers fail in this duty, they can be held liable for a devastating accident. This liability falls on the driver, even when a pedestrian may have been crossing a road outside a crosswalk. The driver is still considered responsible for the safety of pedestrians no matter where they are encountered.

Weekend Pedestrian Crash Tragically Claims a Life in Salinas

A man traveling on foot in eastern Salinas was struck and killed Sunday Afternoon. KION-TV reports the accident occurred sometime before 2:46 p.m. in the 1400 block of East Alisal Street on August 7, 2022.

The Salinas Police Department says they arrived on the scene to find a 30-year-old man in the roadway. Emergency crews performed life-saving measures on the victim, but the man was later pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators say a Dodge Durango driven by a 34-year-old woman struck the man. She called 911 and stayed on the scene to cooperate with investigators. Salinas PD officers continue to work to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident but did find that driver was not intoxicated.

Securing Assistance for Families After a Salinas Pedestrian Accident

Families who have lost a loved one in a traffic accident are encouraged to file a wrongful death claim against an at-fault driver’s auto insurance provider.

This civil claim seeks economic assistance for the family to cover the costs of a funeral and any remaining emergency response fees stemming from an accident. A wrongful death lawsuit should also recover money to protect the family’s financial future when the guidance and monetary support the deceased would have provided is no longer available.

A spouse, children of the victim, or grandchildren of a victim may file this claim on behalf of the rest of the family. A Salinas pedestrian accident lawyer may also file this claim for the family and make sure at-fault parties don’t escape accountability for a tragic accident.
