Pedestrians in Salinas may have to walk quite a ways to find a safe crosswalk. They can also be asked to cross multiple lanes of traffic in a short amount of time.
These hazardous conditions leave those on foot at risk of being hit by a distracted or reckless driver. Pedestrians suffer all kinds of traumatic injuries in these types of collisions and may also have their lives placed in immediate peril.
Pedestrian Killed After Struck Twice in Salinas
A tragic pedestrian accident claimed the life of a man in northern Salinas Tuesday night. KION46-TV reports the collision occurred sometime before 10:10 p.m. on East Laurel Drive near Bolero Avenue on July 19, 2022.
Salinas police say a 27-year-old man was crossing the street when he was struck by a westbound minivan. The victim was then hit by a second vehicle. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene.
Officers say the 60-year-old driver of the minivan remained on the scene to cooperate with investigators. Police say the driver in the minivan was not driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol when the accident happened.
The driver of the second vehicle did not stop. Police say they are still looking for a driver in a dark-colored sedan. No further description of the driver or the car has been released. If you have information about the driver or the car involved, you are asked to call the Salinas Police Department.
Finding Assistance for Families After a Deadly Salinas Pedestrian Accident
Families will never completely recover from the grief and emotional pain of losing a loved one. That loved one can never be replaced, but families should be allowed to seek justice for what’s happened and protect themselves financially.
A wrongful death claim filed against an at-fault driver’s car insurance company asks for help with funeral costs and emergency response fees. It also seeks to stabilize a family financially by asking for support for the future when the deceased’s weekly paychecks will no longer be available.
When a hit-and-run suspect is involved, that driver’s insurance provider can also be part of a wrongful death claim. This additional claim offers a family a better chance at securing everything they need to rebuild their lives and avoid financial harm in the years to come.
