Intersection Accidents Involving Hit-And-Run Drivers On De Soto Ave in Canoga Park

Intersections in busy sections of Los Angeles are quite dangerous for even safe drivers. Motorists are forced to trust that travelers in other lanes will obey red lights and come to a complete stop.

When drivers become reckless, or even accelerate to make a light that’s already turned red, every other driver and passenger in the intersection is put in jeopardy. Drivers with the right-of-way may not even see a vehicle that continues on despite a red light until a collision has occurred.

Victims can suffer traumatic injuries and those injuries can be severe enough to threaten lives in the most devastating accidents.

Hit-and-Run Accident Involving Pickup Truck in Canoga Park Kills One

The driver of a Lexus sedan was killed after getting struck by a pickup truck in a northwest Los Angeles intersection early Tuesday morning. According to NBC4-TV the accident happened in Canoga Park at the intersection of De Soto Avenue and Vanowen Street on June 28, 2022.

LAPD officers responded to the scene sometime after 12:30 a.m. They believe a Dodge Ram pickup ran through a red light while going at least 80 mph. In the intersection, the truck broadsided the Lexus. The impact sent the car into a telephone pole. The driver in the Lexus tragically died at the scene.

The driver of the pickup left the truck and fled the scene on foot. At last word, officers were still looking for the hit-and-run suspect.

Finding Support for Families After a Tragic Canoga Park Collision

Families will never completely recover from the grief and emotional pain of losing a loved one. And in the case of a hit-and-run accident, close relatives may be left to wonder how to seek help with the costs of a terrible accident and seek justice for a tragedy.

When a hit-and-run suspect remains unidentified there are ways the family can secure support for funeral costs and replace the income the deceased had provided a spouse and children. Families can file a wrongful death claim against the victim’s own car insurance provider if the victim had coverage. The victim may also have been covered by a family member’s policy. The support would come from the policy’s uninsured motorist coverage.

If there’s good news and a suspect is apprehended, a wrongful death claim can be filed against the suspect’s auto insurance company. This civil claim can proceed even as the suspect prepares to face criminal charges. The two cases are separate and a wrongful death settlement can be reached no matter where criminal proceedings stand.
