Pedestrian Parking Lot Dangers Along South King Road in San Jose CA

Pedestrians making their way across San Jose’s crosswalks and busy streets can be in jeopardy from the moment they step onto the pavement. We must also remember that we all become pedestrians any time we drive somewhere and get out of our cars.

Stepping out of a vehicle and walking across a parking lot leaves us vulnerable to the same careless drivers who travel local interstates and boulevards. A driver searching for a parking spot or a certain store can look ahead and miss the smaller profile of someone on foot. This inattention can then lead to a devastating collision.

San Jose Pedestrian Killed in Parking Lot Collision

A man tragically lost his life after being struck by a driver in an East San Jose parking lot Monday afternoon. The Mercury News reports the accident happened around 12:35 p.m. in the 2500 block of South King Road on May 16, 2022.

San Jose Police say a man driving a Toyota minivan struck an elderly man as he walked through the parking lot. The pedestrian was seriously hurt and rushed to the hospital. The victim was pronounced dead around four hours later.

The driver of the minivan stayed on the scene to cooperate with the investigation. Police officers don’t believe drugs or alcohol played a part in the collision. This is San Jose’s 19th pedestrian death recorded in 2022.

Finding Support for San Jose Families After a Pedestrian Accident

Too many families are forced to grieve the loss of a loved one after a careless act in the lanes of a street or in a parking lot. Families will face an overwhelming feeling of loss while also experiencing the incredible financial burdens that often follow a tragic accident.

For close relatives, filing a wrongful death lawsuit against an at-fault driver’s insurance company may be the only way to seek justice. California permits families to file wrongful death lawsuits to allow them some financial protection now and in the years to come.

Family members shouldn’t face the costs of a memorial service and burial alone. They should receive help with ambulance fees and any other hospital bills left behind. A claim should also seek economic help for a spouse, children, and grandchildren as they face a future without the guidance and financial support from the deceased.
