Dangerous DUI Accidents on Hwy 101 Near Avila Beach CA

Highway 101 takes plenty of motorists up and down San Luis Obispo County every day. Frequent travelers will notice that some drivers go way too fast on this stretch of road. And others pay too little attention to the lanes in front of them.

These hazards are bad enough, but when drivers choose to get behind the wheel while intoxicated, they often put motorists at even more risk. A driver that is impaired can easily lose focus on the road. They can also travel recklessly. They may not have the awareness to even hit the brakes when their vehicles are heading straight for other cars. Impacts can carry more force and injuries can be much more severe.

Support for Victims After an Avila Beach Accident

Victims in frightening car crashes often don’t know how badly they are hurt until a day after the accident. The shock of what’s happened can mask pain in the minutes after a collision. Victims may not notice serious pain until they wake up the next day. X-rays and examinations can also reveal injuries accident victims didn’t know they had.

Victims will also face ambulance fees and doctor’s bills and have little chance of paying them down. Patients may not even be to return to work for quite some time and will lose paychecks as their bills stack up. That’s why victims are permitted to file a claim for damages against the car insurance providers for at-fault drivers. This claim can earn a settlement to help pay for medical bills and reimburse lost income.

When an at-fault driver is facing DUI charges, victims don’t need to wait on the resolution of criminal proceedings. A civil claim against an insurance company proceeds separately from a criminal trial and could be filed regardless of where the suspect’s criminal case stood.
