Crosswalk Dangers for Pedestrians on the PCH in Long Beach, CA

Pedestrians in Long Beach are sometimes asked to cross four and five lanes of traffic in a matter of seconds. This dangerous task is made all the more difficult when dealing with drivers who aren’t paying appropriate attention as they approach intersections.

A distracted or reckless driver might fail to look up to see someone on foot in a crosswalk until it’s too late. Once a collision has occurred, the at-fault driver can do even more damage by deciding to heartlessly flee the scene. This choice often leaves the victims waiting even longer on the life-saving medical care they need.

Hit-And-Run Driver Kills Pedestrian in Long Beach

A hit-and-run driver in Long Beach left the scene of an accident after tragically killing a woman who was crossing the street Wednesday night. KTLA-TV reports the pedestrian collision occurred near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Harbor Avenue around 11:30 p.m. on April 20, 2022.

Long Beach Police say they found a female victim between 30 and 40 years old in the roadway. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators say she was struck by a driver in a 2002 Toyota Avalon. The driver fled after the accident.  The car was found several blocks away on Santa Fe Avenue. The driver hasn’t been located.

If anyone has information about the incident or the hit-and-run suspect, they are asked to call the Long Beach Police Department.

Finding Support for Families After a Pedestrian Accident in Long Beach

Families forced to cope with the terrible loss of a loved one are protected under California law. Close relatives such as a spouse, domestic partner, or children of the victim are encouraged to file a wrongful death claim.

This civil claim seeks financial support from an at-fault driver’s car insurance company. These are just a few of the things that will determine the level of support awarded to a grieving family.

These are just a few of the hardships a driver’s car insurance provider can be responsible for:

  • Support to pay for a memorial service and burial.
  • Support for medical bills and ambulance fees the victim accumulated before passing on.
  • Support for the guidance and care the loved one can no longer provide in the future.
  • Support for the wages the loved one can no longer provide in the future through a weekly paycheck.

If a hit-and-run suspect is never identified. Families still have the opportunity to file a wrongful death claim. Their claim could be filed against the victim’s uninsured motorist car insurance coverage. If the victim didn’t carry insurance, the deceased may be covered by a family member’s policy.
