Pedestrian Accidents Involving Hit-and-Run Drivers On 12th St In Merced CA

Pedestrians in Merced are always at risk from careless and reckless drivers. Those on foot have no protection in a collision with a vehicle and can easily suffer life-threatening injuries in an impact.

The consequences of a careless accident are even more severe when a hit-and-run driver leaves the scene of a pedestrian accident. They show no compassion for the victim when they don’t bother to stop and check on the injuries suffered. These drivers also further endanger the victims by not calling 911 and getting medical help on the way as soon as possible.

Two Pedestrians Seriously Injured In Merced Hit-And-Run Accident

Two people were rushed to the hospital after they were struck by a hit-and-run driver in southern Merced Wednesday night.  KSEE-TV reports the accident occurred sometime before 7:45 p.m. near the intersection of M Street and 12th Street on March 2, 2022.

Merced Police Officers arrived to find two people in the roadway suffering from moderate injuries. They were taken to a local hospital.

Witnesses told investigators that a motorist in a 4-door car hit the victims and then fled, continuing north. The car involved was also described as having damage to the front right bumper and headlight.

The Merced Police Department is requesting that anyone with information about the driver or the vehicle involved call them.

Help for Victims After a Merced Hit-and-Run Accident

Victims of pedestrian accidents often need days or weeks of medical care to have hope of returning to their normal lives. The expense of this care should fall to the at-fault driver’s insurance company.

When the driver’s identity is known, an injury claim is filed against the car insurance provider. This claim seeks assistance with every medical bill involved in recovery as well as the lost hours at work patients lose income over. The pain a victim endures and the emotional trauma experienced also factor into settlement totals the pedestrian receives.

When a driver makes the heartless choice to flee the scene of a pedestrian accident and remains unidentified, victims can still seek help in recovery. They would need to file an accident claim against their own car insurance carrier. This claim would ask for compensation from the policy’s uninsured motorist coverage. If the victim didn’t have car insurance, it’s possible a family member’s policy would cover them.
