Hit-And-Run Pedestrian Accidents On South Union Avenue In Bakersfield

Pedestrians shouldn’t have to face the dangers they often do while walking across Bakersfield. Pedestrian pathways and proper crosswalks may be few and far between, but drivers should also be counted on to take extra precautions when traveling near foot traffic.

In fact, motorists owe pedestrians a special “duty of care” when driving in Bakersfield. This legal obligation means they must travel at safe speeds and maintain attention to the road to keep those on foot safe no matter where they meet them.

This duty of care applies even when pedestrians aren’t in crosswalks. Drivers can be held fully responsible when becoming careless and striking an unprotected pedestrian.

Finding Support for Family Members After a Bakersfield Hit-And-Run Accident

After a pedestrian tragedy, family members of the victim may face several enormous expenses they weren’t anticipating at such a difficult time. These surprise costs can include funeral and burial expenses, emergency response fees, and estate settlement costs. These expenses may be even harder to deal with as the deceased’s weekly paycheck is no longer available to support the family financially.

To help with these costs, an at-fault driver’s car accident insurance provider should be called upon to pay for every expense close relatives endure. If a driver flees the scene and is never located, it is still possible to earn compensation for the family. A claim can be filed on the victim’s own car accident insurance or on a family member’s policy that covered the victim. This claim would utilize the policy’s uninsured motorist coverage.
