Pedestrians travel Bakersfield without any protection from a potential strike from a truck or car. It’s why drivers are under a “duty of care” to monitor the roads for pedestrians no matter where they may encounter them.
Drivers rarely show this extra caution that is due and are often paying less attention to the lanes and sidewalks when people on foot are struck. This is especially true for new drivers who are statistically proven to be more likely to engage in distracted driving.
In California, 60% of accidents caused by teenage drivers involve distracted driving. These mistakes in the lanes can prove especially devastating for pedestrians who have little chance of absorbing an impact with a car or SUV without suffering serious injuries.

Bakersfield police say a 48-year-old woman from Bakersfield was struck by a car driven by a teenage driver just after 7 a.m. The woman died from the injuries she sustained. Two other pedestrians were knocked down in the accident but were uninjured.
The driver responsible stayed on the scene to cooperate with investigators. Investigators say drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the tragic accident.
Seeking Assistance for Families After a Bakersfield Pedestrian Accident
The families of fatal pedestrian accident victims will have the duty to provide a proper memorial service and burial for their loved ones. This enormous expense is added onto the cost of emergency response fees and estate settlement costs close relatives will be responsible for.
Family members can file a wrongful death lawsuit against an at-fault driver’s auto insurance provider to seek help with these costs and more. This civil lawsuit can serve to protect a family from bankruptcy now and in the future when the family will be missing the guidance and monetary support a loved one would have continued to provide.
