Accidents Involving Trucks on Hwy 14 in Kern County

Highways that crisscross Kern County carry trucks of all kinds day and night. Some of those delivery vehicles and haulers can be several times the size of even a normal car and present a true danger to all Kern County motorists.

Kern County Emergency Responders see the frightening consequences of these accidents every year. According to California’s Transportation Injury Mapping System (TIMS) the county recorded 242 accidents involving large trucks in 2020. Those collisions resulted in 320 victims suffering injury and the tragic loss of 29 lives.

Fatal Pick-up Truck Collision With Big Rig in Kern County

At least one person was killed in a crash involving a pick-up truck and a semi-truck in northwest Kern County on Thursday morning. The Daily Independent reported the tragic accident occurred around 6:45 a.m. on Highway 14 south of Highway 178 on April 15, 2021.

Emergency calls indicated that a white pick-up truck and a big rig had collided head-on. The Kern County Coroner was dispatched to the scene but there was no word on how many lives were lost or on the number of victims injured.

The big rig ended up jackknifed along the highway. Traffic was reduced to one lane along the road while the California Highway Patrol conducted its investigation of what caused the crash and cleared the trucks from the scene.

Assistance for Victims and Families After a Kern County Accident

Collisions involving a large truck can lead to devastating injuries and even claim the life of an occupant in a smaller vehicle. Families can wonder how to find justice for a deceased victim after a heartbreaking accident on local roads.

Under these difficult circumstances, close family members are encouraged to file a wrongful death lawsuit to make sure close relatives are protected from extreme financial hardship.

After a fatal accident, family members like a spouse, children, and even parents can be saddled with the costs of ambulance fees and burial expenses. The family must also face life without the emotional and monetary support a loved one had always provided.

Every one of these damages should be covered by the at-fault driver and his or her insurance coverage. If a professional truck driver is found to be responsible for a collision, then the company they operate under may also be targeted by a wrongful death claim. An attorney working to protect a family that has endured a tragedy can help sort out just who should be responsible for providing support to those left behind.
