Monterey County Accidents Caused By DUI Drivers

Drivers can make the terrible choice to consume alcohol or take drugs and then get behind the wheel. That indefensible act can be followed by unpredictable moves on the highway, making it almost impossible for even safe drivers to avoid them.

The consequences of such reckless decisions can be seen in Monterey County every year. In 2019, there were 285 collisions involving alcohol use across the county. In those accidents, 20 lives were tragically taken and over 400 people suffered injuries.

These senseless accidents can leave victims to recover from severe injuries and leave families behind to mourn the loss of a loved one.

Support for Families After a Monterey County DUI Accident

A thoughtless act on the highway can leave devastated victims and families behind. A collision can rob close relatives of a precious life and also leave them vulnerable to the financial consequences an accident can bring in the weeks following a tragedy.

To find some justice, families are permitted to seek a wrongful death lawsuit against a DUI driver responsible for a deadly crash. His or her insurance can be called upon to provide the family with money to pay for ambulance fees and hospital bills acquired before the victim passed on. Compensation can also be provided for funeral expenses and the costs involved with putting the deceased’s estate in order.

A family victimized by a sudden tragedy can also ask for help with future financial hardships as the emotional and financial support a victim provided the family will no longer be available.

A DUI suspect will be facing criminal proceedings for their crime, but a wrongful death claim can move forward separately even if the criminal trial hasn’t started yet.

Families should never have to worry over bills and other financial losses as they grieve the passing of a loved one. Insurance companies should offer support to families without having to be asked, but they often try to hold out so they can pay out as little as possible after a tragedy.
