Any confrontation between those on foot and a motorist can lead to devastating consequences. Fresno pedestrians travel unprotected and with little assurance that careless drivers are paying attention at intersections when they cross.
A distracted or reckless driver can be focused on a cellphone or another car and completely fail to see a pedestrian trying to safely cross the street. The results can be a severe accident that leads to a long hospital stay and a difficult path back to normal life.
Fresno Hit-And-Run Pedestrian Accident
A pedestrian suffered major injuries after a hit-and-run in Fresno, west of downtown, Friday evening. KSEE-TV reports the accident happened around 6 p.m. along Marks Avenue at the intersection of Belmont Avenue on January 15, 2020.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a man was crossing the road when the driver of a brown pickup truck trying to pass another vehicle struck the victim. The man was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
The driver of the truck fled the scene and did not return. Investigators are asking that anyone with information about that driver or the truck involved call the Highway Patrol.
Support for Pedestrian Victims and Families in Fresno
A terrible accident can leave pedestrians and their families waiting on positive news from a doctor. Getting victims back on their feet and back to the normal routine of life is the first goal. But that difficult journey can also bring anxiety over unbelievably high medical costs and missed rent and power bills as victims are forced to miss more and more time at work. These worries may all arise while the driver who caused the accident remains unidentified and continues to avoid justice.
If the heartbreaking news comes in that a suspect hasn’t been found, victims can protect themselves from financial hardships by filing a claim against their own personal car insurance policy. A claim against his or her uninsured motorist coverage can help with hospital bills and other hardships. If victims aren’t covered by their own policy, they may be covered by a family member’s policy.
If the driver responsible for this tragedy is found and charged, a civil claim against his or her insurance can move forward. The suspect will likely be facing a criminal hearing, but victims or their family members can file a civil claim no matter where a criminal case stands.
