Flooding Related Accidents In Clovis and Fresno County

Stormy weather can make travel hazardous across Central Valley when heavy rains put down a lot of water that can’t drain from roads fast enough. Flooding can start to appear across Fresno County and careless drivers can sometimes ignore the danger and put other motorists at risk of an accident.

State, county, and city emergency responders in Fresno County know that downpours can cause multiple accidents in a short period of time. The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) monitored Fresno County in 2019 and recorded 77 collisions involving rainy conditions. Those accidents led to a total of 106 victims injured and tragically caused three deaths for the year.

Over a Dozen Flooding-Related Car Crashes Across Fresno County

A rainstorm left parts of Fresno County flooded and unsafe for travel on Thursday and Friday morning. KFSN-TV reported the downpours left highways slick and with dangerous standing water in several locations on January 28, 2021.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to a multiple-vehicle crash involving a Greyhound bus on southbound Highway 99 near Jensen.

The Clovis Police Department says they’ve seen at least 14 rain-related crashes across the city since the start of the storm. A parking lot at Willow Avenue and Nees Avenue was a problem area with several inches of water reported.

CHP officials say that people are driving way too fast and not giving themselves enough room to stop when encountering weather hazards.

Support for Fresno County Victims of Rain-Related Accidents

Drivers can mistakenly think that accidents caused by drivers during rainy or flooded conditions are no one’s fault. They may assume that mother nature is to blame, but that’s not the case. Anytime there are dangerous weather conditions all drivers are required to travel at speeds suitable for the circumstances.

It means that speed limits can be different than what’s on the posted signs. Drivers are required to go slow enough to avoid collisions no matter the situation. If they are traveling too fast for conditions they can be ticketed and be liable for any accidents they caused.

So if you are hit by a careless motorist choosing to ignore current conditions and you are injured you are justified in seeking compensation. You should expect help with the incredible costs of medical care you’ll be required to pay. By filing a claim for damages against the driver to blame and his or her insurance company you can also receive money to cover your lost wages while you’ve had to miss work.
