Head-On Collisions In Denair And Stanislaus County

Passing a car on a two-lane road can be hazardous under the best of conditions. Visibility can be a big factor in these situations and just making sure no vehicles are coming from the other direction can be difficult to safely determine.

The California Highway Patrol responded to over 1,600 accidents with injuries in a single year involving a motorist trying to pass another vehicle. Collisions while passing another vehicle led to 73 deaths on California roads. 209 people lost their lives in accidents involving a driver crossing into an opposing lane.

An attempt to pass another vehicle can put many drivers at risk.  The driver attempting to pass, the driver they are passing and any driver in oncoming traffic are all placed in jeopardy.  Add speeding or carelessness to the mix and the chances for a devastating accident increase dramatically.

Fatal Head-On Collision Outside Denair

Two vehicles struck head-on east of Denair Monday afternoon, leaving one driver dead and another injured. The Modesto Bee reported the accident happened on Hawkins Road north of Keyes Road, just South of Turlock Lake State Recreation Area, on August 24, 2020.

The California Highway Patrol believes a man driving a Honda Acura was traveling at an excessive speed when he attempted to pass a car on a double yellow line.  The Acura then struck an on-coming Ford pick-up truck head-on.

The driver of the Acura, a 20-yr-old man from Atwater, was pronounced dead on the scene. The Ford pick-up ended up overturned from the impact.  The truck’s driver was taken to Oak Valley Hospital with injuries. Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol played a part in the accident.

Compensation in a Head-On Collision

Accidents can always lead to tragedy, but head-on collisions can prove the most costly and cause the most human suffering. The cars involved both bring their speeds into the accident, doubling the blunt force of the impact.  It can be like both cars hitting a wall from either side.

Victims in these accidents can suffer severe injuries and even lose their lives. Victims and their families may wonder how to get help with the mounting hospital bills and other hardships in the aftermath of a tragic collision.

California provides up to two years for a victim to file a claim for damages after a crash. The lawsuit would attempt to hold the insurance company of the at-fault driver responsible for physical, emotional, and financial tolls accumulated after an accident.

If the claim is successful a victim can expect to be compensated for all medical costs now and in the future. Any time missed from work due to injury can also be recovered. An award might also cover mental anguish and the cost of psychological counseling. The pain and suffering a victim endures might also earn monetary compensation.
