Dangerous Head-On Collisions On Hwy 178 in Kern County CA

Highways across rural Kern County can carry much more traffic than they were designed for and that can lead to real hazards for local motorists.

These narrow roads with fast-moving traffic become especially dangerous when drivers aren’t paying proper attention to the road. They can wind up crossing the double-yellow line and end up in the path of unsuspecting drivers to cause a devastating accident.

Head-On Impact Tragically Kills One Person in Kern County

At least one person was killed in a traffic collision in northeast Kern County late Saturday morning. KBAK-TV reports the accident took place on Highway 178 near the intersection of Kelso Creek Road, outside of Weldon on January 29, 2022.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene sometime before noon after the report that a white pick-up and a grey car had collided head-on. One life was claimed in the accident. One victim was taken to the hospital, but it’s not clear how many other injuries were involved.

California Highway Patrol investigators continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Support for Victims and Their Families After a Kern County Accident

Highway accidents can leave victims with a long, difficult recovery in front of them. These accidents can also force a family to say goodbye to a loved one lost to a tragedy. While still trying to process what has happened, victims and families can suddenly be hit with the costs associated with a major accident.

Close relatives who have lost a loved one will be asked to pay the high cost of a memorial service and burial. The fees charged for ambulance service and emergency response can also be sky-high. Families are allowed to request support from an at-fault driver’s insurance provider through a wrongful death claim. This civil lawsuit would seek to protect the families from these expenses.

It would also seek assistance for the family in the future as they must continue on without the financial and emotional support the deceased had always provided.

For injured victims in recovery, insurance companies should be petitioned in a claim for damages. This claim would list the hospital expenses, missed work wages, and other hardships and demand compensation from the insurance provider of the responsible driver.
