Contact us today if you or a loved one were diagnosed with leukemia after exposure to Camp Lejeune’s contaminated water. To be eligible for compensation victims must have been in contact with the water for at least 30 days while assigned to or living or working on the Marine Corps Base during the 50s, 60s, 70s, or 80s.

Support is Now Available for Camp Lejeune Leukemia Victims and Their Families

Patients suffering harm after their exposure to polluted well water at Camp Lejeune received positive news when The Camp Lejeune Justice Act (CLJA) was passed on August 10, 2022.

The act removed legal obstacles for victims and their families hoping to seek compensation after suffering from major health issues. Victims who developed leukemia after coming in contact with Camp Lejeune’s chemically tainted water can finally demand financial support from the Department of Defense.

To be eligible, leukemia victims must show they served, lived, or worked at Camp Lejeune for at least 30 days at any point between August 1, 1953, and December 31, 1987. The 30 days of exposure do not have to have been on consecutive days.

The families of victims who didn’t live long enough to seek justice for the harm they were subjected to can also file claims.

Camp Lejeune Victims with Leukemia Eligible for Compensation

Leukemia is a general term for cancers of the blood cells. Abnormal cells form in the bone marrow and can crowd out healthy cells. Patients will not have enough healthy cells to deliver oxygen to organs and fight infections. Types of leukemia are determined by where the blood cells come from and how fast cancer spreads.

The Cleveland Clinic reports that Leukemia is the 10th most common cancer in the U.S., accounting for 3.2% of all new cancer cases. Leukemia can affect anyone, but it’s more common among men ages 65 to 74.

Leukemia patients are often given chemotherapy which uses chemicals to kill leukemia cells. Patients may also receive drug therapies to boost the immune system or attack leukemia cells. Patients could also receive stem-cell therapy. Medical science has not found a cure for leukemia, but long-term remission is possible.

Camp Lejeune Chemicals Linked to Leukemia

Benzene was one of the major chemicals found in Camp Lejeune water supplies. The CDC found that there is strong evidence linking benzene exposure to the development of leukemia. Marines and Navy personnel, their families, and civilian workers on Camp Lejeune may have drunk water contaminated with benzene, cooked with it, or bathed in it and developed cancer of the blood.

There is also some evidence linking Trichloroethylene (TCE) to leukemia cases.  Wells at the Hadnot water plant on Camp Lejeune were found to contain TCE levels 275 times over the safe limit in water samples that were tested.

If you or a loved one has suffered from Leukemia and the harsh side effects of cancer treatment, it’s time to seek justice from the Department of Defense. If you were exposed to Camp Lejeune water over the qualifying three decades and you live in California, discuss your options with a California Camp Lejeune Leukemia Lawyer.

Who Is Eligible to File a Camp Lejeune Leukemia Injury Claim?

The Camp Lejeune Justice Act cleared legal obstacles blocking those suffering from leukemia after exposure to harmful chemicals from filing a lawsuit against the federal government.

Those suffering health issues after their time spent on Camp Lejeune now have up to two years from the passage of the CLJA to file an injury claim and seek damages.

These and other parties are permitted to move forward with a Camp Lejeune toxic water leukemia lawsuit:

  • Military veterans from all branches who served at Camp Lejeune and their families who lived on base.
  • Non-military employees and contractors who worked on the base.
  • Individuals conceived after their mothers were exposed to Camp Lejeune’s water supplies.
  • Caregivers/Guardians for Camp Lejeune victims who are incapacitated and can’t file a claim for themselves.
  • Family members who have lost loved ones to health issues caused by exposure to toxic water on the Marine Corps Base.

What Types of Things Can Earn Camp Lejeune Toxic Water Compensation?

A claim could earn leukemia injury settlement money to cover all past medical expenses for patients. Any medical care and costs expected in the years to come would be covered.

A Camp Lejeune Contaminated Water Attorney would also ask that the victim’s lost income while not being able to go to work be reimbursed. The emotional and physical pain endured by the victim should also factor into a leukemia settlement check. These are just a few of the factors that should earn victims long-awaited economic support.

For families who have lost a loved one to leukemia, it’s possible to secure money to pay for all past medical expenses before the victim passed on. The costs of a funeral and burial for a Camp Lejeune leukemia victim should also earn financial support. The income the victim was no longer able to provide to family members should also factor into the direct support families receive.
